Writing for a CHANGE.

God had been preparing me all along. I accepted my calling back in 2000. I'm called to 'teach' His Word. Once I received that calling, I've been fulfilling His plan for my life. Not long after I received my calling to teach, God instructed me to start writing Newsletters. So that's what I did. All I had was a computer, printer paper, and some envelopes. So I started writing. It didn't look professional at all. The envolopes were plain and the addresses were handwritten with a pen. I wrote what I felt that God was telling me. I did a lot of writing. However, I never got any responses. Whether it was helping people or not, I just kept writing. I was obeying God. I was doing what He instructed me to do.

"Obey God's message! Don't fool yourselves by just listening to it." ~ James 1:22 CEV

Then after some time went by, I finally started getting feedback. Writing is like exercising. The more you write, the better you get. I learned through my writing stages how to connect with people. You see, many people 'communicate', but very few actually 'connect'. The Newsletter helped me to really connect with people. I had no idea that God was preparing me to write a best-selling book, "Life in Righteousness". Nobody wants to buy a book to see how smart you are. People want to buy books that will make them smart. They buy books that show them how to be healthier, wealthier, and wiser. They buy books that will increase their relationship with God; with their spouse; with their children; with their job. People want to really experience 'change', so this is what they invest in.

"There is no secret formula. It is simply a good item for which there is a need, at the right price, offered to the right market."
~ Dan Poynter

What are you writing about? Does the information you provide improve the lives of others or do they just improve your reputation? Are you writing to build up character or to build up your resume? The answer determines if you'll have a best-seller.

Don't STOP at the START.

Over 10 years ago, God gave me a revelation that changed my Life. And that was just a piece of the puzzle. In 2001, God gave me the full picture to the revelation. Not long after that, I knew in my heart that I was to write a book about it. I was torn between - Should I get a Publisher or Should I Self-Publish. After much prayer, thought, and wise counsel, the answer was - Self-Publish.

If I was to write only one book, then I might would go for the Publisher. But as of now, I have almost 40 book ideas. So it's best that I self-publish and start a publishing company. And our first book would be called "LIFE IN RIGHTEOUSNESS: The Word is Your Life"So that's what I did.

Wait, that's not exactly correct. That's not what I 'did', that's what I 'said'. I talked about it, but I wasn't taking any action. I procrastinated for years. Yes, I continued to talk about it, it was still in my head, but I wasn't moving. The reason that I procrastinated is because I was scared. I was afraid. I constantly had thoughts of, "I've never published a book before...I don't know anything about writing a book...What if the book flop?...What if no one buys it?...What if I make a fool of myself?...etc." Therefore, I never got started. I STOPPED at the START. Have you ever stopped at the start? This is when you never start because of a fear of failure; a fear of rejection; a fear of making mistakes; a fear of looking foolish.

It was 2008 and I was still procrastinating. My mentor approached me and said, "God told me to tell you, 'IT'S TIME.' I don't know what He means, but I'm just telling you what He said..." My mentor didn't know, but I knew what God was referring to. However, I still procrastinated. Not long after that statement, some changes began to take place on my job. I was faced with the decision of quitting (even though I didn't have another job lined up) or take a tremendous pay cut and a demotion. After much prayer, God told me to leave. I personally didn't want to leave until I found another job first. But God said leave, so I left. People literally called me crazy. "What are you going to do?", was the most common question.

To make a long story short, I left. Now I had all of this free time. I said to myself, "Either go for it or don't go at all!" So I stepped out in faith and got started. And God, with all of His goodness, provided for me. And He continues to provide for me as I step out on my vision. God has PROVISION for the VISION.

"If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them." John 13:17

So take part in my vision by following me on this journey to produce a BEST-SELLING nonfiction Christian Book.

Why Not Sell a Million Copies?

My new book is titled “Life in Righteousness”. I wrote the book to change the lives of everyone who comes in contact with it. I have a goal to sell at least a million copies. A lady asked me once, “Why do you want to sell a million copies?” My response to her was “Why not?” If I was writing for social entertainment, then I wouldn’t need any more than 500 copies or so. But I’m not writing a book for social gatherings or to boost up my resume. I’m writing to change and improve lives. Life in Righteousness is a form of writing that will inject motivation straight to your soul. It’s like taking a dose of inspiration and encouragement. However, I could tell by this lady's body language and expression that my goal bothered her. She perceived my goal as having wrong motives. She felt that I had selfish reasons or desires. So because she didn’t understand the purpose of my goal, it offended her.

I have every right to want to sell over a million copies of my book Life in Righteousness. I own a publishing company called ‘Yarah Publishing’. What company do you know that’s in the business of selling, which does NOT want to sell their product? If you don’t sell your product, then you’re out of business. That alone would be a good enough reason to want to sell a million copies. But that’s not even the reason that I want to sell that many books.

Here’s the real reason why. Imagine if you had the cure for an incurable disease. Let’s say for example – cancer. How many people would you want to be healed from it? 10 people? 100 people? 1,000 people? You wouldn’t want to keep it for yourself. You would want everyone who had cancer to have access to this cure, whether it was a million people or a billion. “Yeah Billie, but if I had the cure for cancer, I would give it away for free…” That’s sounds deep, but not if it cost you to make it. You would have to use the money from sales to create even more of the medicine. That’s how most businesses operate.

Likewise, that’s how much I value the knowledge that’s inside my new book, Life in Righteousness. It’s the cure for living the common Christian life. It’s the cure for having church as usual. It’s the remedy for living a defeated Christian life. No more! I have the cure and I’m going to broadcast it to the world. I believe this book will take Christians to a higher level. Even if they’re already on top, it will take them even higher. Why am I so sure about this? Life in Righteousness is not a ‘good’ idea, but it’s a ‘God’ idea.

The BINDER That BINDS Me to SUCCESS.

I finally finished writing the first rough draft of my book, "Life in Righteousness". Next, I put the chapters in order. Then, I set my Microsoft Word document to the same trim size that the book will be (6 x 9). By doing this, I can estimate the number of pages. I had it saved on my computer, but I needed something to make it more real to me. I needed a visual aid. I needed an external prop that wouild boost my faith. So here's what I did:

I went to Walmart and purchased a 3 inch Binder. I printed out a mock front and back cover for the Binder. I printed off the pages and punched holes in them with my hole puncher. I inserted the pages and 'whah lah', here's my first book. I walk around with the binder. I take it to the riverfront, the lake, restaurants, or anywhere you would normally read a book at. When I'm at home, the Binder sits on the coffee table. It catches everyone's eye. They pick it up and look inside. They seem impressed. They often say, "Make sure to let me know when you publish this. I want an autographed copy..." So the Binder experience builds my faith. The Binder binds me to possibility. This makes it more real to me. This let's me know, "Yes, I can do this."
“As far as possibilities go, everything is possible for the person who believes.” Mark 9:23 God's Word Translation

Some may say, "Oh, that's silly..." Some may even think that's a bit too much. But I don't do what I do based on what YOU believe. I act on the faith that's in MY heart.
"What if some did not believe and were without faith? Does their lack of faith and their faithlessness nullify and make ineffective and void the faithfulness of God and His fidelity [to His Word]?" Romans 3:3 AMP

What about you? What binds you to your possibility? What external props are you using to build your faith? Get a picture of that house. Test drive that car. See yourself with it. This is important because if you can't see it, then you can't be it. If your eyes can't see that far, your mind sure won't take you there.

AS I WRITE...

As I Write, 'YOU' are constantly on my mind. I think about how each word will touch you. I think about how each phrase will motivate you to change. I'm not concerned about 'impressing' you, because then it would be about me. I'd use big words to make myself appear smart at the expense of you not understanding. I'd attend social gatherings while sipping herbal tea with my pinkiy finger sticking out, nibbling on a croissant as I proudly boast, "I'm an author..." Now where is the 'change' in that?

As I write, my focus is on YOU. Did it touch your heart? Did it affect the way you think? Did it make you want to do better, get better, live better? While you were reading it, did you see God? Did it draw you closer to Him?

As I write, I express my vision. I convey my purpose. I reveal my dream. My goal is to provide you with Life-Changing information that will take you from the level that you're at now to a higher one.

Stay connected to me and my vision...As I write.

When You HURT, You WRITE.

After God told me to leave my job, I put my notice in. People kept asking, “What are you going to do?” Some people even said, “You’re crazy!” My response was, “God is my source. The job was just a resource. I’ll find another job. I was looking for a job when I found this one.” One of the executives called me into his office. He said,

“You keep talking all of this God stuff. You have a little girl to look after. I know you have some money saved up, but what are you going to do if something drastic happens that will soak that money up? You will not have medical insurance once you quit, so what are you going to do if your daughter gets sick? What are you going to do if your car breaks down...”

I sat there and listened to him. I heard him out. But my mind was made up. He was not a man of God, so I didn’t expect him to understand. And because he kept belittling my faith in God, it was almost confirmation that I was doing the right thing.

Now here’s the interesting thing. A few days after my last day on the job, guess what happened? My car broke down. I could have gotten upset. I could have said, “Man, that executive was right…” I could have started to panic. But I chose rather to trust God. So I decided to go back in the house, I turned on the computer, and I started writing. Since I couldn’t go anywhere, it didn’t make any sense to just sit around moping. That just got me amped up to go after my vision even more. When I started writing, it took me into another world. I wasn’t worried. I wasn’t scared. And because of my trust in God, He came through.

“Anyone who does what is right may have many troubles. But the Lord saves him from all of them.”
Psalm 34:19 NIRV

Going after your vision enhances your trust in God. Chasing your dream builds up your faith in Him. Problems are going to come. Trouble will always be there. But God made you an overcomer, so you have plenty to write about.
